Are we an environmentally friendly skip bin provider?

Living a greener lifestyle is at the forefront of many people’s thoughts, and it’s the small actions in our day to day lives that can end up making the biggest difference. Skip bin suppliers such as Melville Bin Hire are finding new ways to ensure that a large percentage of the waste placed in skip bins can be recycled.

This includes:

  • Clean fill or hard fill waste streams being redirected to recycling facilities to be recycled into hard rubble for laying roads
  • Green waste skips being redirected to landscaping facilities to be turned into mulch

Can skip bins be placed in a garage?

Our skip bins cannot be placed into a garage or carport. Our trucks work with a hoist system that lifts the bin up and then lowers it off the back of the truck. This means that the bin cannot be placed under structures or objects such as trees, carports, or garages. You need to allow clearance of approximately 5 metres in height for any skip bin from Melville Bin Hire.

If you’re unsure about where we can place a skip bin at your property, call the team at Melville Bin Hire and we can chat through the options.

What level can skip bins be filled to?

Our skip bins can be filled up to the top rail. There must not be any materials protruding over the top of the skip. Overloaded bins are dangerous and create Occupational Health and Safety concerns for employees and the general public. We always put safety first and will not collect overloaded bins.

If a bin is overloaded, we will arrange for an additional bin to be delivered at the customers expense and the customer will be asked to unload the excess waste into the new bin.

What items are not allowed in a skip bin?

The following items are not allowed in a skip bin:

  • Liquid
  • Food waste
  • Hazardous wastes, including:
    • Asbestos (unless proper guidelines are followed, and we provide an asbestos speciality bin)
    • Poisons
    • Paints
    • Oils
    • Gas bottles
    • Toxic wastes
